Dear John,
Well, The Elephant has finally trumpeted and the town is still picking itself up off the floor from the shockwaves.
Following the meeting last Thursday, the head of the herd Davros has decided that we should be exterminated! I have now seen men cry, grown men who I never thought capable of doing such a thing.
The thought of The Old Empire no longer being there is enough to drive a chap to drink, although the choice of tipple grows ever slimmer.
Must confess, most of us thought The Elephant might try something of the sort. Still, with only us and Hampton North left, we rather thought we were a good fit, they do the fake and fizzy and we the real stuff. Silly us. You live and learn, though at my age I do wish people would stop providing the lessons.
Our Man in The House is on the case, he meets Davros this week but I fear that our fate is already decided.
This week The Old Empire have ridden through surprise, disbelief and bewilderment. Anger has now arrived, a thoroughly unpleasant but necessary bed fellow. We may go down in the end but there’s still fight in us, despite what The Elephant may have planned.
Best leave it there. I’ve a feeling this one won’t be settled over a quiet pint.
